Surfaces and Elton John Release New Single "Learn to Fly"

On Friday, June 12, friends Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki of Surfaces released their newest single, which was a collaboration with one of the biggest names in music. Sir Elton John has been doing more collaborations lately (with Lady Gaga’s “Sine from Above” being among the most recent) and “Learn to Fly” has been his latest project.

As always, this new Surfaces song brings joy and optimism to anyone who listens to it. Urging listeners to loosen up and go with the flow, the song expresses that they will eventually find love and learn to fly above all the negativity. “Just keep that head up, don’t you worry/It will be alright” Elton John croons during his verse.

Out of all the artists making music now, I don’t think I would have picked these two to work together, but it works. I can’t keep myself from doing little dance moves while listening to it and swaying along to the song.

While the music doesn’t sound different than any other Surfaces song, the message could not come at a better time. With the world experiencing the unrest that comes with a pandemic and the Black Lives Matter Movement, sometimes coming across positive thoughts can prove to be more difficult than expected. With its upbeat music and hopeful lyrics, this song is a bright spot in a difficult year.
