The 1975's "Guys" is a Heartfelt tribute to their Bandmates

The British alternative band, the 1975, is set to release their fourth studio album, Notes on a Conditional Form, on May 22. On Wednesday, the last track on the album, “Guys,” was released which is probably the last release before the album drops.

Since the songs on the album have varied from hard rock to softer ballads, I had no expectations when listening to it for the first time. The first lyric hit home - “I was missing the guys” - since I’m missing my friends after over two months of social distancing and quarantine. “Guys” pays homage to the friendship between the band members and the bond they have formed throughout the years.

Frontman Matty Healy sings about hearing a song and starting to cry, and hearing that almost made me cry. An earnest, mid-tempo track really showcases the bond that the 4 bandmates share. They originally met in high school in 2002, and shared an apartment together.

“The moment that we started a band/Was the best thing that ever happened/And I wish that we could do it again/It was the best thing that ever happened to me” Healy croons. This song is one of my favorites from the band (and I didn’t think that anything could top “Me and You Together Song”).

The 1975 is set to release ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’ on May 22.
